Flatland Cavalry’s “Songs To Keep You Warm” Brings You Home: Exclusive New Video
2022 has been a great year for authentic, meaningful country music. That said, nothing compares to Flatland Cavalry’s newest EP “Songs To Keep You Warm.” Cleto Cordero and his Texan outfit recently released their newest EP, to much praise from audiences everywhere. This six song EP is not your typical Red Dirt country music, it’s a masterclass of songwriting just in time for the changing of seasons. Each track is perfectly suited for a cold night around the campfire, or a long road trip home. This EP might even fool you into believing that Texas has a full four seasons. Texas Country and Red Dirt aside, this EP displays Flatland’s ability to connect with a massive audience through sound and lyrics that transcend category, class, and location.
“Song to Keep You Warm” debuts with “Mountain Song” which is welcomed by lovers of the violin. Cleto Cordero’s strong vocals paired with the fiddle talent, Wesley Hall create a musical cocktail unforgettable to the ear. The intense imagery transports the listener to a campfire night in the mountains, solidifying “Mountain Song” as a staple for any playlist.
“Time ain’t a thing here
Luck is my best friend
Carrying with me everything I own and who I am Pray to God I see your face again”

Like two halves of a broken heart, “Damaged Goods” & “How Long” connect seamlessly with lonesome lyrics that create that warm, fuzzy feeling. These tracks are reminiscent of Flatland’s trademark style of classic country and heartbroken songwriting. “Damaged Goods” a peaceful ode to a lost love and youth–pairs elegantly with the heart-aching duet “How Long”. Kaitlin Butts, a talented artist in her own right, appears yet again on a project with her now husband. Her familiar voice and collaboration is a treat for longtime fans and listeners.

“Parallel” welcomes another female vocalist, Ashley Monroe. This track conveys the story of touring musicians and the struggles of separation they face on the road. Longing to link again, the track is a lyrical biopic of Cleto himself. This track is a calm journey of hardship that understands distance as the enemy of love. “Parallel’s” deliberate instrumentation transports listeners through a vivid story full of heart-wrenching emotion.
“Though the miles between our hearts got us feeling like a living hell And loving from afar is hard but we do it well
Guess that’s what chasing dreams will do
’Til I get back to you.”

Flatland Cavalry rounds out the EP with symphonic performances on “If We Said Goodbye” and “Show Me Now Which Way to Go”. These songs serve as a compass, guiding and moving listeners asking big questions of travel, home, and the next step in whatever life tosses their way.
As 2022 comes to a close, Flatland Cavalry gives a voice to the emotions many of us hold dear. If you’re seeking shelter from the changing seasons of life and love, “Songs to Keep You Warm” may be just the place to find it.
